The Best Works of Photographer Hugo Suissas

Lisbon-based photographer Hugo Suissas demonstrates the wonders of perspective in his astonishing and humorous photographs. All lovers of hand-held brides will be delighted (but not only).
Hugo creates magical, surreal images using complex perspective and unusual angles—and without Photoshop. But these are also illusions. In his works, he transforms simple bridges and landscapes into fairytale places, and ordinary objects like keys, fruit, and children’s toys into magical props. Each photograph has its own story and intention, and they all help to see a boring, gray world in a new, vibrant light.
Tourists often use different angles, scale, and depth to create original photos near landmarks (like the Leaning Tower of Pisa). However, Lisbon-based photographer Hugo Suissas applies this technique in a unique way. He creates photographs that transform ordinary landscapes and everyday objects into playful compositions with their own stories.
The photographer transforms the familiar vision of bridges and landscapes into fantastical worlds, using keys, fruit, and toys as props. Each photograph has its own message and helps us see the familiar world in a new light.
“As an artist, I’m inspired by the realization that art and ideas can work wonders,” says Hugo. “I believe creativity can be magical and can help solve serious problems in the world. My brain doesn’t understand the word ‘stop,’ and since the world never stops either, I’d say it’s a perfect combination. I’m a simple guy; I like simplicity and a simple life.”

In one image, Suissas transforms the arch at Lisbon’s famous Praça do Comércio into a keyhole. In another, the arch becomes a light bulb thanks to a metal base positioned at a precise angle. When not photographing buildings and landmarks, Hugo uses his photography skills to engage with the world around him, from playgrounds to clouds in the sky.
No matter the location, it’s clear Hugo possesses a boundless imagination and a keen sense of perspective.
“What inspires me about being an artist is the realization that art and ideas can create miracles,” he says. “I believe creativity can be magical, and it can help solve serious problems in the world.”

These are the fantasies.
