New ambassador of Austria Applauds Algeria’s Active Role in Regional Stability

The new Ambassador of Austria to Algeria, Wolfgang Spadinger, on Tuesday welcomed Algeria’s active role in favour of regional stability and its commitment within international bodies.

In a statement following the presentation of his credentials to the President of the Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, in his capacity as ambassador of the Republic of Austria, Spadinger affirmed that Algeria remains “an essential partner in the fight against illegal immigration and constitutes a pole of stability in an unstable and complex regional environment.” He welcomed the “very active” role of Algeria as a non-permanent member of the United Nations, as well as its contribution within the African Union and the Arab League.

“In a world facing multiple challenges, Austria intends to fully assume its responsibilities and actively contribute to international security. It is in this spirit that we have presented our application for a non-permanent seat on the Security Council for the period 2027–2028, based on partnership, dialogue and trust”, he added.

Furthermore, Spadinger noted that Algeria and Austria share “the deep conviction that an international order based on law, diplomacy and the principles of multilateralism is essential for world peace.” Touching on economy, he highlighted the “excellence” of relations between Algeria and Austria, specifying that Algeria is “Austria’s fourth-largest economic partner in Africa”, given its “considerable economic potential, particularly in the fields of infrastructure and energy.” He emphasized “the key role” Algeria can play in Europe’s energy transition, citing the example of “the southern green hydrogen corridor project, which will connect several countries on both sides of the Mediterranean”.
