German Industrial Orders Rebound After Four Months of Decline

Industrial orders in Germany rebounded in September, ending a four-month streak of decline, according to data released Wednesday by the German Federal Statistical Office.

Adjusted for seasonal and calendar variations, the volume of orders rose 1.1% month-on-month, following a revised 0.4% decrease in August, Destatis reported.

The recovery was driven in particular by strong demand in the automotive sector and electrical equipment manufacturing.

The September rebound, stronger than analysts surveyed by FactSet had expected, could signal a slight return of confidence in Germany’s manufacturing sector, which has faced weak global demand and high production costs in recent quarters.
