Czech Republic: 57 Injured in Collision Between Two Trains (Updated Toll)

The toll from the collision between two trains that occurred Thursday in the south of the Czech Republic has risen to 57 injured, regional emergency services announced.
An earlier toll reported 42 injured, according to the same source.
Regional emergency services stated that 57 people were injured, including 40 lightly and 13 moderately. The Ceske Budejovice hospital said it had admitted four patients with serious injuries.
Czech Railways suspended traffic between Ceske Budejovice and the city of Plzen in the west. Traffic is expected to remain halted until around 3 p.m. local time (2 p.m. GMT).
An investigation has been opened by authorities. Firefighters said no passengers were trapped in the wreckage, and that cleanup operations would begin once investigators complete their work.
