West Using Ceasefire Talk to Buy Time for Ukraine – AL24 News

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made a series of remarks on the Ukraine crisis, criticizing Western approaches and outlining Russia’s perspective on ongoing diplomatic efforts. He accused the West of using statements about a potential ceasefire as a tactic to give Ukraine more time, rather than a genuine attempt to resolve the conflict.
Lavrov also addressed high-level diplomatic meetings, noting that discussions between President Putin, US officials Witkoff and Kushner were serious and focused on addressing the root causes of the Ukraine crisis. He emphasized that Russia is aware of Washington’s intent to prevent Ukraine from joining NATO and reiterated that Putin has repeatedly expressed Russia’s willingness to negotiate, provided the talks are genuine and substantive.
Highlighting ongoing diplomatic channels, Lavrov said that Russia-US contacts on Ukraine are based on a solid foundation established during the Alaska negotiations. He added that Moscow is interested in hearing the impressions of US representatives from their meeting with the so-called “coalition of the willing” in Europe, signaling continued engagement despite tensions.
