I declined France 2’s alleged investigation as “offensive to Algeria, politically motivated” – AL24 News

President of the France-Algeria Association Ségolène Royal confirmed that she refused to participate in the alleged investigation of France 2 because it is “offensive to Algeria and politically motivated.” In an interview with the Algerian television set to air this evening on Canal Algerie, Ségolène Royal said: “I refused to participate in this report. I was supposed to appear in the “red chairs” segment at the end, but given the highly sensitive nature of the subject, I requested to screen the documentary before it was broadcast.” “After watching the documentary, I made it clear that I could not participate and could not legitimize a work that is completely disrespectful to Algeria. I cannot help boost viewership for a politically biased piece, especially when my name draws an audience,” she stressed.
Ségolène Royal confirmed that she conveyed her position in writing, emphasizing that “what appeared in the report is entirely unacceptable.” Addressing French channel executives, she said: “Imagine if Algerian public television produced a similar report about Emmanuel Macron, what would France’s response be? How can anyone even justify media content that lacks any professional standards whatsoever?” The France-Algeria Association president revealed that the report “was initiated when Bruno Retailleau was France’s Interior Minister, so I’m not surprised it’s politically motivated.” She pointed out that examining the report’s objectives “makes clear that it aims to delegitimize dual nationals through anonymous testimony from an elected official.” She emphasized that “there’s no evidence supporting these claims. All consulates worldwide maintain contact with their citizens, this isn’t interference as portrayed, but standard practice.” Royal described it as “a clear mechanism designed to sow doubt and poison public discourse about dual-national elected officials,” adding that this tactic “is well-known, and it’s no coincidence this report airs just two months before municipal elections.”
