New rules for Hormuz navigation likely: Iran FM

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that the US is responsible for the war engulfing the region.

In an interview to Al Jazeera Channel, Araghchi denied targeting civilians, defended Iran’s retaliation, and warned that the US military presence across the Gulf makes escalation unavoidable.

Araghchi also signals possible new rules for navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, while rejecting a ceasefire in favour of a permanent end to the war.

He said the repercussions of the war in the Middle East would be felt globally.

“Wave of global repercussions has only begun and will hit all — regardless of wealth, faith, or race,” the Iranian Foreign Minister posted on X, accompanied by a copy of the US National Counterterrorism Center director’s resignation letter prompted by the war. Joseph Kent, who was appointed by Trump, announced his resignation Tuesday. “I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran,” he said.
