Hugh Grant says he’d love to work in Bollywood, shares his list of dream Indian co-stars
Hollywood actor Hugh Grant walked down memory lane during a conversation with actor Rahul Khanna at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit (HTLS) 2025. He confessed that he is enamoured by songs and dances sequences, and even expressed his desire to work in Bollywood someday. In fact, he already has a few co-stars in mind.
Hugh Grant’s Bollywood dreams
At the start of the conversation, Rahul asked Hugh whether he is familiar with the vast world of Indian cinema as Hugh was recalling his time in the country while shooting for a project in 1988.
Responding, Hugh confessed, “I have seen bits of Satyajit Ray (projects) as we were using his studio. He was a great genius. But I can’t pretend that I’ve seen a lot of Bollywood.”
Towards the end of the session, the conversation took an interesting turn when Rahul asked Hugh whether he harbours a desire to enter Bollywood. And Hugh said “yes” with excitement.
“Ohh, yeah, offer me… Yes, I’d love to do that. Well, I love song and dance now. Song and dance keeps cropping up in my films. Like in Paddington 2, I did that big dance (sequence) at the end. I loved it. I don’t really see the point in any other kind of form of entertainment. When song and dance is done right, it’s just blissful,” added the Notting Hill star.
Hugh’s desired Indian co-stars
When Rahul asked his preference of co-star, Hugh named Moon Moon Sen. “How old is she?” Hugh said with a question for Rahul. To which, Rahul responded, “Still young. She is gorgeous.”
“Still young? Like me… That might be fun. And they are still (working)…. Shabana (Shabana Azmi) and Supriya Pathak. She was such a great girl. I’d love to see her again,” admitted the British actor.
During the summit, Hugh also spoke about his first visit to India back in 1988. He was in the country to shoot La Nuit Bengali (The Bengali Night) in Kolkata (then Calcutta).
“I thoroughly enjoyed being in Calcutta. People said, Hugh, it will be a culture shock.. And it was, but I thoroughly enjoyed being in Kolkata. I, for some reason, got swept into Kolkata high society, cocktail parties and played polo… I didn’t know that life existed anywhere, but it existed… I had a lovely time,” he said.
