Oscars 2026 highlights: One Battle After Another wins Best Picture; internet upset over rude interruptions

However, the 2026 segment excluded Bollywood legend Dharmendra, who died in November 2025, aged 89.

Warner Bros emerged as the biggest winner at the Academy Awards on Sunday, although the celebrations were tempered by the looming $110 billion sale of its parent company to Paramount Skydance, a deal that is set to reshape Hollywood’s studio landscape.

The studio took home 11 Oscars in total, led by One Battle After Another, a story of violent resistance in a dystopian America, which won six awards including best picture, best director and best supporting actor. Sinners, Warner Bros’ genre-blending fantasia set in the Jim Crow South, earned four Academy Awards, including best actor.

“I want to thank Warner Bros,” said Michael B. Jordan, who won the best actor Oscar for playing twin brothers in Sinners. He praised the studio for “betting on original ideas and artistry.”

Warner Bros had recently been at the center of a months-long bidding battle between Paramount Skydance and Netflix for its parent company, Warner Bros Discovery. Paramount CEO David Ellison ultimately secured the deal with a higher bid, backed by his father, billionaire Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison.

The agreement will combine two of Hollywood’s historic studios, reducing the number of major film players at a time when the industry is facing rapid consolidation, growing competition from streaming platforms, labor tensions and rising production costs.

Viewers are upset over rude cutting-off of winners on stage. “Hey Oscars producers, if you have time for a lengthy Bridesmaids bit and dumb filler presenter intros, you have time to let the winners give their thanks. It’s the best part of the show. Cutting off the mic after one person speaks (esp that Golden speech) is so, so cold,” read a comment on Twitter.

Oscars 2026: Kate Hawley won Best Costume for Frankenstein. The award was presented by Anne Hathaway and Anna Wintour. It also won Best Makeup and Hairstyling Oscar.

Miles Caton breathed life into the audience with his performance of I Lied To You from Sinners. He was supported by almost 50 performers on stage. At the end, a ballerina performed in the front of the stage, meters away from Timothee Chalamet. He has been courting controversy lately for his comments on the irrelevance of ballet and opera.

K-pop Demon Hunters has won Best Animated Feature. Best Animated Short went to The Girl Who Cried Pearls.

Amy Madigan wins the first Oscar of the night for her work as a supporting actress in Weapons. She played the evil Aunt Gladys in the hit movie.
