GYEONGJU:

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and US President Donald Trump will discuss trade, investment and peace on the Korean peninsula at bilateral talks today, Lee’s office said.

The South Korean leader is hoping Trump’s two-day visit during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) forum will lead to tangible cooperation, the presidential office said.

“South Korea will host a dinner today for Trump and some other leaders of Apec member economies, including Vietnam, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Thailand and Singapore, to discuss regional and economic cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region,” it said.

“At the dinner, Lee will stress South Korea’s role to facilitate regional cooperation among emerging markets and leading countries in promoting technology,” the statement said.

Lee will gift Trump a mockup of a golden crown with a design dating from the Silla dynasty, which was a period when Korea saw its longest period of peace, it said.
