Western Sahara: 49th EUCOCO Meeting Opens Friday in Paris

The 49th Conference of Support and Solidarity with the Sahrawi People (EUCOCO) opens this Friday in Paris, with participation from multiple delegations from around the world.

Under the slogan “Self-determination and respect for the right to decolonization of Western Sahara”, the EUCOCO conference, held in France — a country that organizers say has officially failed in its neutrality toward the Sahrawi cause — “represents a decisive opportunity to raise a strong voice,” according to the organizers.

They also say the conference will serve to “unequivocally denounce the neo-colonial stance of the French executive, and reaffirm the inalienable legitimacy of the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination and independence.”

Besides the national Sahrawi solidarity committee of Algeria, Algeria will be represented by a delegation comprising members of both chambers of Parliament and representatives of the Algerian diaspora.

Spanning two days (28 and 29 November), the conference will follow a revamped format with several panel discussions and a focus on outlining upcoming solidarity actions.

According to the published schedule: on the first day participants will gather for an inter-parliamentary event; on the second day the main EUCOCO conference will take place at the Bourse du Travail in Paris, followed by a public rally in support of the Sahrawi people.
