Russia Condemns NATO’s “Irresponsible” Talk of Pre-Emptive Strikes

Russia sharply criticized NATO after Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, raised the possibility of pre-emptive strikes against Russia — remarks reported by the Financial Times.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova condemned the comments as “an extremely irresponsible step,” arguing they reveal the alliance’s readiness to continue escalating tensions. She stressed that such rhetoric reflects a dangerous shift in NATO’s posture.
Zakharova further warned that “those making such statements should be aware of the risks and potential consequences, including for the alliance members themselves,” underscoring Moscow’s view that any discussion of pre-emptive action carries severe implications for regional and global security.
