Putin Says Meeting with Witkoff and Kushner Was “Very Useful”

Russian President Vladimir Putin described his recent meeting with American envoys Witkoff and Jared Kushner as “very useful,” stating in an interview with India Today that while it is still too early to discuss concrete details, the talks were both “necessary and productive.” According to Putin, the proposals brought by the U.S. delegation were largely based on understandings previously reached with President Donald Trump during their meeting in Alaska.
Putin explained that the length of the discussions was due to the need to review virtually every point of Trump’s 27-point plan. The American side divided these points into four separate packages, proposing to address each one individually. He added that U.S. representatives are now engaged in “shuttle diplomacy,” traveling between parties in an effort to narrow differences and push negotiations forward.
The Russian president also recalled that Moscow had earlier attempted to build relations between the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics and Ukraine. However, Kyiv refused to recognize the two republics, while their populations—through a referendum—made clear they did not wish to remain part of Ukraine. Putin noted that these realities contribute to the complexity of the current negotiation process and underscore the need for sustained efforts to bring the sides closer to a resolution.
