Cyprus Assumes the Rotating Presidency of the European Union – AL24 News

Cyprus assumed, on Thursday, the rotating presidency of the European Union, succeeding Denmark, for a six-month term.
The rotating presidency is part of the EU’s established rotation mechanism among its 27 member states, under which each country holds the presidency for a fixed period according to a pre-agreed schedule.
As of today, Cypriot delegations will chair ministerial meetings and mediate between EU member states until the end of June.
Key issues expected to feature prominently on the EU agenda during the first half of 2026 include reforms aimed at strengthening competitiveness, addressing irregular migration, and reaching an agreement on the EU’s next long-term budget, alongside other ongoing legislative projects.
