Washington–London Relationship “Not What It Used to Be” – AL24 News

U.S. President Donald Trump has said that the historic relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom “is not what it used to be,” in an interview with the British newspaper The Sun.

Trump’s remarks came after British Prime Minister Keir Starmer declined to allow the United States to use two British bases in Cyprus in the context of the escalation in the Middle East. Commenting on the decision, Trump said, “It used to be the strongest relationship. And now we have strong relationships with other countries in Europe.”

He described Starmer as “not cooperative,” adding, “I never imagined I would see that happen. I didn’t think the United Kingdom would act that way. We love the United Kingdom.”

Speaking by phone from the White House on Monday evening, Trump said, “It’s a different world, frankly. It’s a very different relationship from the one we had with your country in the past.”
