Tunisian President Summons EU Ambassador Over “Failure to Respect Diplomatic Work Rules”

Tunisian President Kaïs Saïed summoned on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, the European Union ambassador to Tunis, Giuseppe Perrone, to notify him of a “firm protest” regarding what the presidency described as a failure to respect the rules of diplomatic work. The meeting, held at the Carthage Palace, was communicated in a brief official statement published early Wednesday.
According to the Tunisian presidency, the head of state reproached the European diplomat for having resorted to “practices outside the official frameworks recognized by diplomatic customs.”
The statement also recalled that Giuseppe Perrone is a “plenipotentiary ambassador to the Tunisian state and its official institutions” and is required to strictly comply with the standards governing relations with the country’s authorities.
