Champions League: PSG, Real Madrid and Arsenal storm into quarter-finals

Europe’s elite competition delivered a night of emphatic statements as Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Arsenal surged into the Champions League quarter-finals with commanding performances that underlined their credentials as serious contenders.

PSG dismantle Chelsea with ruthless efficiency

Defending champions PSG humiliated Chelsea 3-0 at Stamford Bridge, sealing a crushing 8-2 aggregate victory and sending a clear warning to the rest of Europe.

The French side struck early, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia capitalising on a defensive lapse to open the scoring after just six minutes—his third goal of the tie and another reminder of the devastating impact he made in the first leg.

Chelsea, forced to chase the game, only exposed their defensive fragility further. PSG punished them clinically on the counter-attack, Bradley Barcola doubling the lead before teenage substitute Senny Mayulu added a third in the second half.

Despite registering 18 attempts, Chelsea rarely troubled goalkeeper Matvei Safonov, with their inefficiency in front of goal mirroring their defensive struggles. Manager Liam Rosenior, already under scrutiny, admitted his side paid the price for costly mistakes, while injuries forced them to finish with 10 men, compounding a miserable evening.

PSG now await either Liverpool or Galatasaray in the quarter-finals.

Vinicius double sinks Manchester City again

At the Etihad Stadium, Real Madrid once again proved to be Manchester City’s European nemesis, securing a 2-1 victory on the night and a dominant 5-1 aggregate triumph.

Vinicius Jr was the star, scoring twice in a performance full of intent and edge. He opened the scoring from the penalty spot after a VAR review judged Bernardo Silva to have handled the ball on the line—an incident that also reduced City to 10 men and effectively ended any realistic hope of a comeback.

Erling Haaland briefly restored parity before halftime, but with Madrid already in firm control of the tie, City struggled to build momentum. Vinicius had the final word, striking in stoppage time to complete his brace and cap another clinical European display.

The result marks the third consecutive season in which Madrid have eliminated City, reinforcing their dominance in the competition they have won a record 15 times.

While Madrid march on, Pep Guardiola turns his focus to domestic matters, insisting his side will return stronger next season.

Eze brilliance lifts Arsenal past Leverkusen

At the Emirates Stadium, Eberechi Eze announced himself on the Champions League stage with a moment of pure quality, scoring a stunning opener in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Bayer Leverkusen.

Receiving the ball outside the box, Eze controlled, turned, and unleashed a thunderous strike into the roof of the net—an effort that left fans and teammates alike in awe.

Declan Rice described him as “frightening” in front of goal, while manager Mikel Arteta hailed the strike as the kind of “magical moment” Arsenal needed.

Often used sparingly earlier in the season, the 27-year-old is now emerging as a key figure at a crucial stage of the campaign, offering Arsenal attacking dynamism as they pursue success on multiple fronts.

With momentum building and confidence growing, Arsenal head into the quarter-finals looking increasingly dangerous.
