In the desert area south of the city of al-Madame in the UAE you can find a small and abandoned complex of houses and a mosque, which local residents call the old city of al-Madam and ghost city. It is located about 60 km from the city of Dubai and 50 km from Sharji. The inhabitants left this place, leaving him to tear the desert, and she soon turned this settlement into a surrealistic set for Tarkovsky’s films.
A few kilometers southwest of the small town of al-Madam along the old road from Dubai to Hatt in the middle of the desert is an abandoned settlement. This place was once a house for the people of the al-Kutby tribe, one of the indigenous peoples in the vicinity of al-Madam.
For some reason, residents left their homes about ten years ago. According to legends, people allegedly forced the evil spirits of the genies.
In Arabic and Muslim culture, the genie is a supernatural creature from the other world. Nevertheless, they are not always evil. Everyone knows that it was the genie who helped the son of the poor tailor Alladin to defeat the evil sorcerer, find wealth and become a prince in one of the most popular Arab tales of a magic lamp.
Many people continue to believe that something supernatural happened in al-Madam. But in fact, the cause of everything is the unfriendly sand of the desert. The architects of the village did not take into account that it is located right in the path of the migrating dunes. No matter how hard the newcomers tried to resist the sand, their houses steadily fell asleep. The sand was everywhere, so it was impossible to live in the village.
The village consisted of two nearby houses and mosque on the outskirts. According to historians, the dwellings were erected at the end of 1970-1980 as part of the project to provide housing for the indigenous population. There are two rows of identical houses and mosques in the village. Tourists can not only study the surroundings, but also go to the houses where the personal belongings of the locals have been preserved.
The quality of construction was extremely high, because the houses have been preserved in excellent condition to this day. But they failed to cope with the onslaught of the sandy sands.
The room behind the room, the house behind the house, the sands were filled at home from floor to ceiling. It was sand, and not evil spirits forced the inhabitants to leave, turning al-Madam into a ghost city.
Today it is a popular attraction of Dubai for tourists and instagramers.
