Chinese Ghotuvan Village: a landmark, from which frost on the skin

The places conquered by man from nature, without care, very quickly return to the primitive state. Such as before, they will no longer, since people have changed them with their activities. But these locations often turn into excellent tourist objects that attract visitors with their desolation atmosphere. One of these places is the Chinese village of Khutwan (Houtouwan), located on one of the islands of the Shengsi archipelago at the mouth of the Great Yangtze River.
The fishing village of Khutwan in the 80s of the last century was inhabited by about 2,000 people. These were fishermen with their families and workers of the processing seafood of workshops. There was even its own port in the village, from where the flotillas of fishing boats and cargo ships that delivered fish to the mainland went to the fishing of the flotilla.
But in the early 90s, everything changed. Fish in local waters has become smaller, and its price to the markets of Shanghai, the nearest large city, catastrophically fell. People began to leave the village, and when about 30 residents were left, the local authorities canceled the transport communication with the village.
The last store stopped working in the Khutuvan, the first -aid post closed and after that the most persistent residents left the village. From the mid-90s, no one has been living here, except for birds, snakes and rodents. At home, ivy and wild grapes and a village, covered with a green “cover”, gradually wrapped at home from the sea and from the air.
But they did not forget about the Khutuvans. In the early 2000s, the first lovers of extreme tourism appeared on the island. An amazing green village, looking at the world with empty windows, impressed the guests and soon spoke about this place. Tourists stretched to the island, first timidly, in small groups, and then in whole streams.
Today the abandoned village of Khutwan is a popular attraction. Trips on boats, as well as air excursions on helicopters, are organized here. Sometimes the village is crowded with tourists who scurry everywhere, but there are also moments of calm when you can safely enjoy the spectacle of the confrontation of the creations of human hands and merciless nature.
A carpet covered with a carpet looks ominous, but an abandoned Japanese spa hotel does not cause such emotions. It seems that people left just a couple of months ago, although they went to decades.
