Scientist Bolkov: Superbugs are resistant to various antibiotics
Mikhail Bolkov, a senior researcher at the Institute of Immunology and Physiology of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, spoke about superbugs.
“Resistant bacteria are resistant to various antibiotics. As a rule, they live in hospitals, that is, they spread poorly in the environment,” he said in an interview with the Izvestia newspaper.
As the expert noted, it is very difficult to fight such bacteria. Bolkov did not rule out that in the future people will spend large amounts of money to fight superbugs, since they will dominate in their danger among others.
According to the expert, specialists around the world are developing antimicrobial peptides and similar substances that will help destroy bacteria using a different principle than standard antibiotics.
It was previously reported that experts from the World Health Organization and the world's leading doctors came to the conclusion that infections caused by bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics could claim over 39 million lives by 2050.
