Doctor Shokur spoke about the reasons for autumn blues

Endocrinologist Svetlana Shokur named the reasons for autumn blues.

“In autumn, the concentration of melatonin in the blood increases. This is a hormone that is produced in the body with the onset of darkness. Thanks to melatonin, deep sleep occurs, and we rest,” the expert said in an interview with the Argumenty i Fakty website.

According to the expert, due to the earlier onset of darkness after the autumn equinox, more melatonin is produced, which leads to sleepiness even in the early evening.

Increased workload at work, the start of the school year and other stressful situations also affect mood, the doctor added.

Earlier, Ilya Barsukov, a senior researcher at the endocrinology department of the State Budgetary Healthcare Institution of the Moscow Region, the Vladimirsky Regional Scientific Research Institute, advised checking blood sugar levels annually starting at age 45 in an interview with Radio 1.
