Doctor Lavrishchev: some diseases can worsen in winter

General practitioner, chief physician of the Semeynaya clinics Alexander Lavrishchev said that chronic diseases can worsen in winter.

Cold air can provoke an increased tendency of the bronchi and heart vessels to spasm, especially in the presence of other unfavorable factors, such as heredity, bad habits, chronic diseases, he shared in an interview with the Evening Moscow newspaper.

During the cold season, bronchial asthma and joint diseases may worsen, and coronary heart disease (angina) may also become worse.

In addition, pneumonia occurs more often in the autumn-winter period, but not because of the cold, but because of the high prevalence of respiratory (viral) infections, Lavrishchev noted.

And due to a lack of sunlight, depression occurs more often. In this case, a special light therapy lamp can help, the doctor added.

Earlier, the director of the Scientific Information Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Viral Infections, Georgy Vikulov, in an interview with NSN, said that noroviruses are active in the autumn-winter period.
