JCEM: Three cups of coffee a day reduces the risk of cardiometabolic diseases by 48%

Regular moderate coffee and caffeine consumption may have a protective effect against the development of multiple cardiometabolic diseases, including type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease and stroke. This is the conclusion reached by Chinese scientists from Soochow University. The study was published in the scientific journal Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism (JCEM).

Experts have found that small doses of caffeine reduce the risk of cardiometabolic multimorbidity (CM) – the development of two chronic diseases in the body associated with metabolism and the cardiovascular system.

“Drinking three cups of coffee or 200-300 mg of caffeine per day may help reduce the risk of developing cardiometabolic multimorbidity in people without any cardiometabolic diseases,” said lead study author Dr. Chaofu Ke.

Scientists have clarified that 200-300 mg of caffeine is contained in three standard cups of the drink.

The study found that compared to those who did not drink coffee at all, drinking three cups a day reduced the risk of CM by 48.1%.

The findings are based on an analysis of medical data from more than 172,300 people in the UK Biobank project.

Experts emphasized that the habit of drinking coffee every day can literally save lives, since in patients with CM the risk of death from any cause increases by 4-7 times compared to healthy people.
