Daily Mail: Swapping cow's milk for soya milk could reduce heart disease risk
Using soy milk instead of cow's milk may reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, the Daily Mail reports.
Scientists at the University of Toronto analyzed data from 17 previous trials involving more than 500 people. The average duration of each trial was four weeks, and participants drank an average of 500 ml of plant-based or cow's milk.
Across all studies, replacing cow's milk with soy milk was associated with lower cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and markers of inflammation. All of these are associated with reduced cardiovascular risk, previous studies have shown.
Other studies have shown that soy and pea milk are closer to cow's milk in nutritional content than other plant-based drinks. However, it is important to choose drinks that do not contain sugar or emulsifiers, the scientists emphasized.
