Director of the Institute of Biomedical Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences Orlov confirmed the postponement of the satellite launch "Bion-M" for 2025
Director of the Institute of Medical and Biological Problems (IMBP) RAS Oleg Orlov confirmed that the launch of the biological satellite “Bion-M” №2 has been postponed to 2025. TASS reports this.
“We are now preparing for the launch of Bion-M 2, which will fly in March next year,” said the director of the IBMP.
TASS reported the postponement of the satellite launch in August. It was assumed that the launch of “Bion-M” №2 will take place on September 1, 2024. The device planned to send 75 mice, one and a half thousand fruit flies, plants and microorganisms into space for research.
The previous Bion-M satellite №1 was launched into orbit in 2013. The flight duration was 30 days. Then 45 mice, 8 gerbils, 15 geckos, as well as snails, crustaceans, fish and various microorganisms went into space.
On September 25, the Falcon 9 launch vehicle successfully launched 20 satellites of the Starlink broadband Internet access system into low-Earth orbit. The space shuttle was launched from the US base SLC-4E on the morning of September 25. An hour after takeoff, the satellites separated from the second stage of the rocket and entered orbit.
