Moscow Planetarium: up to 15 "shooting stars" expected during the Draconids meteor shower

The Draconid meteor shower will peak on Wednesday night, October 9th. TASS reports this with reference to the press service of the Moscow Planetarium.

The message clarified that the number of “falling stars” at this time can reach 15 per hour,

“But the Draconids have bursts of up to 100-400 meteors per hour,” the planetarium clarified.

Autumn starfall meteors are characterized by yellow and reddish hues. The speed of their entry into the atmosphere will be about 20 km/s. The planetarium advised observing meteors in the early morning hours in the north-west of the capital, away from city lights.

The day before, astronomers recalled that the constellation Draco can be found above the Ursa Major bucket and can be recognized by its zigzag “tail.” The evening of October 8 is expected to be especially favorable for stargazing due to the waxing phase of the Moon. This means that the sky will not be illuminated by a large amount of moonlight.
