NASA: one nuclear explosion in space will destroy the entire satellite network of the Earth
NASA head Bill Nelson said that just one nuclear explosion in space would destroy the entire satellite network of the Earth.
“If a rival detonates a nuclear bomb in space, all satellites will stop transmitting information,” RIA Novosti quotes him.
He added that six explosions would lead to the complete destruction of satellites in orbit. Nelson emphasized that this equipment is not protected from the relevant type of radiation exposure.
The agency emphasizes that, according to information from open sources, there are currently about 10 thousand artificial satellites in planetary orbit.
Earlier, NASA expressed confidence in maintaining cross-flights into space.
