TweakTown: iPhone 16 to Get Siri Search Feature Similar to Criticized Recall

Apple has introduced a new Siri search feature in the iPhone 16 that resembles Windows Recall, TweakTown reports.

At the Apple presentation, Senior Vice President of Marketing Greg Joswiak noted that the new search function in iOS 18 allows Siri to quickly find the necessary information using the user's personal semantic index. At the same time, unlike Windows Recall, the data is stored only on the device and is not sent to the cloud.

Despite the similarities in functionality, Apple's search hasn't yet caused the same stir as Windows Recall. Microsoft's innovation runs on Windows 11, taking screenshots of the desktop to allow users to use AI to create a “history” of their computer use. Users and experts have criticized the approach, noting that the feature doesn't hide sensitive information like banking details and passwords, and have expressed concerns about how data is stored on Microsoft servers.

Microsoft has assured that all Recall data is stored locally, but this has raised new concerns about possible unauthorized access to the computer and copying of private information.
