Elon's X Social Network Bypasses Brazil's Blocking
Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, became available again to many users in Brazil on September 18 after it was blocked by a court order, Reuters reports.
This became possible after its update – plugins made it possible to bypass the block imposed by the country's Supreme Court.
The X update used cloud services offered by third parties, namely security firm Cloudflare, which allowed some Brazilian users to access X.
It is unclear how many Brazilians have access to X. X did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
On August 17, social network X announced an urgent shutdown of its operations in Brazil. The decision was the result of a dispute with the country's Supreme Court over censorship issues.
On August 29, Brazil's Federal Supreme Court judge Alexandre de Morais issued a subpoena to X owner Elon Musk, ordering him to appoint a new legal representative for the platform in the country within 24 hours. However, the entrepreneur refused to comply.
On August 30, Brazil's Supreme Court ordered the immediate cessation of the social network's operations in the country.
Thousands of people took to the streets in Brazil to protest against Judge Alexandre de Morais' decision to block the social network.
