Von der Leyen approves Kallas as EU diplomacy chief
Former Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas will take over as EU's top diplomat from 1 November.
Her candidacy was approved by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
“We are in an era of geopolitical confrontations and instability. Our foreign and security policy must be defined with an understanding of this reality,” the head of the European Commission said, TASS reports.
In July, Kallas resigned as prime minister of Estonia.
Earlier, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban expressed doubts that Kallas would be able to effectively lead EU diplomacy.
