Meta*, the company that owns Facebook**, WhatsApp** and Instagram**, announced it was blocking the accounts of RT and the Rossiya Segodnya media group as part of an escalation of efforts to counter “Russia’s covert influence operations.”

“These media outlets used misleading tactics to amplify Moscow's propaganda,” the article says.
Earlier, the Russian leader’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov stated that blocking the Meta accounts of RT and Rossiya Segodnya discredits the IT company itself.
