State Department Accuses RT of Trying to Hinder Sandu's Re-Election in Moldova

The State Department has again accused RT of collaborating with Russian intelligence to try to prevent the re-election of President Maia Sandu in Moldova.

This was stated on CNN by the special envoy and coordinator of the center for global engagement at the department, James Rubin.

“Canadian intelligence data confirms that the Russian television channel RT, Russia Today, is being used for various purposes… RT, under its current leadership, is cooperating with Russian intelligence, trying to prevent the re-election of President Sandu in Moldova,” he said.

Rubin added that if at the time an “external force” had interfered in the elections in the republic and prevented a very pro-Western candidate from winning, “it would have been a tragedy.”

Earlier, the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs supported US sanctions against Russian media.
