State Duma Deputy Ivlev Proposes Transferring Part of Poland to UN Mandate
State Duma deputy Leonid Ivlev proposed transferring part of Polish territory under a UN mandate.
In this way, in a conversation with RIA Novosti, he commented on the proposal of Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski to transfer Crimea under a UN mandate.
As the parliamentarian emphasized, Crimea is historically and rightfully Russian territory, which cannot be said about many Polish lands.
“Let Sikorski remember the lands of Prussia, Silesia, Pomerania, East Brandenburg, and the free city of Danzig that were transferred to Poland by decision of (Joseph) Stalin. Maybe it's time to first give the lands that once belonged to Germany under a UN mandate, and then hold a referendum there,” Ivlev said.
The deputy called on the Polish authorities to calm down and leave the residents of Crimea alone.
Earlier, Sikorski proposed transferring Crimea to a UN mandate to hold a “fair” referendum on its status in 20 years.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said in mid-June that there could be no talk of violating the country's state unity. He called the matter closed.
