Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh said the United States does not support Israeli offensive operations in Lebanon or the Gaza Strip.
“We do not support offensive operations, regardless of whether we are talking about the northern regions or Gaza,” RIA Novosti quotes her as saying.
Washington will nevertheless continue to strengthen Israel's defense capabilities, she said.
Earlier it was reported that Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin fears the start of an Israeli ground operation in Lebanon after the detonation of pagers belonging to Hezbollah members.
