CNN: US to announce major military aid package for Ukrainian Armed Forces, but deliveries will be delayed

The United States will soon announce plans to supply Ukraine with a large shipment of weapons, but the delivery will be delayed due to a shortage of supplies, CNN reports.

This week, the Pentagon recalled that the president's spending authority for Ukraine allows for an additional $5.9 billion. The authority expires on October 1, the end of the fiscal year.

Currently, these powers allow the US authorities to supply Ukraine with weapons directly from US stockpiles.

The arms package is expected to include artillery, air defense systems and ammunition that are “critical in importance,” and the volume of deliveries is likely to be significantly higher than previous ones. Previous military aid packages were valued at an average of $200 million, the TV channel recalls.

Volodymyr Zelensky previously complained that the Ukrainian authorities are unable to arm four of the 14 necessary brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
