WP: West proposes to put an end to Kyiv's hopes for NATO membership
Ukraine's hopes of joining NATO must be put to rest, some politicians in the United States and Europe believe, The Washington Post writes.
Thus, according to some “officials and analysts,” the policy of containing Russia is a mistaken approach that increases the risk of global conflict.
The West should respect Moscow's views on Ukraine as part of its core security interests, according to a number of American and European politicians.
“Others say the West should end Ukraine's hopes of joining NATO, persuade Kyiv to give up territory and perhaps offer Russia sanctions relief,” the newspaper writes.
At the same time, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken noted that, in his opinion, Ukraine’s membership in NATO is inevitable.
Slovakian Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar expressed the opinion that Ukraine's accession to NATO could lead to new conflicts.
