Erdogan says he is ready to meet with Assad
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced a meeting with Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad.
He stated this before flying to the United States to participate in the UN General Assembly.
“We talked about wanting to hold a meeting with Bashar al-Assad in the interests of normalizing relations between Turkey and Syria. Now we are waiting for a corresponding response from that side. We are ready for this,” TASS quotes him as saying.
Erdogan noted that Ankara wants “solidarity and unity to be established” between Turkey and Syria.
Earlier it was reported that Washington is concerned about Turkey's potential rapprochement with Syria.
