China announces payments to poor as part of economic stimulus campaign
Chinese authorities have said they will provide one-time cash assistance to people living in extreme poverty, amid a campaign to stimulate the economy.
Bloomberg writes about this.
As specified, the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Civil Affairs will issue subsidies for living to low-income groups of the population, including the very poor and orphans.
The amount of the payment is not specified.
The announcement came shortly after a series of measures aimed at halting the economic downturn were unveiled.
There were 4.74 million people living in extreme poverty in China as of June, according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs.
