White House: US death toll from Hurricane Helen could reach 600

The death toll from Hurricane Helen in the US could rise to 600.

This was stated by White House Homeland Security Advisor Elizabeth Sherwood Randall.

“Up to 600 people could have become victims, but we do not have an exact figure,” RIA Novosti quotes her as saying.

She also added that assessing the extent of the destruction could take several days.

As noted by ABC News, about 600 people are missing. So far, 121 people have been confirmed dead in Florida, Georgia, South and North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.

It was previously reported that Hurricane Helen killed 116 people in different US states.
