Orientalist Dolgov assessed the risk of a major war in the Middle East

Leading researcher at the Center for Arab and Islamic Studies at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Boris Dolgov, in a conversation with RT, suggested that Israeli retaliatory strikes on Iran would be in the form of shelling.

According to the expert, Iran’s attack on Israel on the night of October 2 was quite serious.

“According to various sources, up to 400 missiles were fired by Iran and 80% of these missiles reached their targets. Israel is expected to respond, but what form will the response take? Most likely, there will also be missile attacks on Iranian territories and Iranian facilities. This is quite possible, especially since the United States has stated that it will defend Israel – American air defense systems will shoot down Iranian missiles if strikes are carried out,” Dolgov explained.

At the same time, in his opinion, a big war should not be expected.

“It is not in the interests of the United States and Iran to start a direct clash, a major war. This is sufficiently in the interests of Israel, primarily in the interests of the country's leadership. Therefore, there may be mutual strikes, but there will not be a big war,” the orientalist is sure.

Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic, Abbas Araqchi, said that the Iranian armed forces are preparing for possible actions from Israel.

The New York Times reported that Iran is keeping hundreds of missiles at the ready in case of an Israeli or US response.
