Sirens sound as Iranian forces attack Israel
Iran has launched up to 200 missiles towards Israel Tuesday night local time, on the day Israel has invaded Lebanon.
News filtered through earlier in the day from United States intelligence sources that an attack by Iran on Israel was imminent.
Sirens began sounding across Israel. The Iron Dome has likely intercepted many of the missiles, however sounds of explosions were being heard in Jerusalem and the Jordan Rover valley.
The Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC), an elite arm of the Iranian military forces, has issued a statement saying it has targeted the heart of the occupied territories ‘in response to the martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Martyr Nilforoushan.’
Iran’s UN Mission in New York has issued a statement posted on X, defending its actions, but also indicating that the attack is finished – unless Israel responds.
“Iran’s legal, rational, and legitimate response to the terrorist acts of the Zionist regime, which involved targeting Iranian nationals and interests and infringing upon the national sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran, has been duly carried out,” the statement said.
“Should the Zionist regime dare to respond or commit further acts of malevolence, a subsequent and crushing response will ensue. Regional states and the Zionists’ supporters are advised to part ways with the regime,” the statement said.
