Praise for actions that prevented apparent Trump assassination
PALM BEACH, Florida – While doubts mount over the adequacy of Secret Service protection for candidates in this year’s presidential election, former President Donald Trump, who survived an apparent second attempt on his life on Sunday, was full of praise for those charged with his safety.
“I would like to thank everyone for your concern and well wishes – It was certainly an interesting day!” he posted on X and Truth Social. “Most importantly, I want to thank the U.S. Secret Service, (Palm Beach County) Sheriff Ric Bradshaw and his Office of brave and dedicated Patriots, and, all of Law Enforcement, for the incredible job done today at Trump International in keeping me, as the 45th President of the United States, and the Republican Nominee in the upcoming Presidential Election, SAFE. THE JOB DONE WAS ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING. I AM VERY PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!”
Meantime Ryan Wesley Rout, 58, the alleged gunman who was fired upon by Secret Service agents when the muzzle of an assault rifle he was alllegedly holding was seen poking through bushes at the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, where the former president was playing golf, remains in custody following his arrest on Sunday.
It is unknown as to how Rout knew of Trump’s movements and that he would be at the West Palm Beach golf course at that time on that day.
Described as a pro-Ukraine activist he has engaged in recruiting efforts for Ukraine in its fight against Russia.
Aside from former President Trump’s praise for Secret Service and law enforcement agencies actions, President Joe Biden also weighed in Sunday. “I have been briefed by my team regarding what federal law enforcement is investigating as a possible assassination attempt of former President Trump today. A suspect is in custody, and I commend the work of the Secret Service and their law enforcement partners for their vigilance and their efforts to keep the former President and those around him safe,” he posted on X.
“I am relieved the former president is unharmed.”
“As I have said many times, there is no place for political violence or for any violence ever in our country, and I have directed my team to continue to ensure that the Secret Service has every resource, capability, and protective measure necessary to ensure the former President’s continued safety,” Biden’s post said.
Biden spoke with former President Trump on Monday, according to a post on X by White House Senior Deputy Press Secretary Emilie Simons. “President Biden just spoke with former President Trump and conveyed his relief that he is safe. The two shared a cordial conversation, and former President Trump expressed his thanks for the call,” Simons Monday afternoon post said.
