WSJ: Americans complained to authorities about the suspect in the assassination attempt on Trump
Ryan Wesley Routh, suspected of attempting to assassinate Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, had previously received complaints from authorities, the Wall Street Journal reports.
Thus, Chelsea Walsh, a nurse who met with Rout several times in Kyiv in 2022, said that in June 2022, she reported his threats of violence to a Customs and Border Protection officer at the Washington airport. The woman called him one of the most dangerous Americans she met in Ukraine in 1.5 months.
Former CIA employee Sarah Adams said that Rout was perceived in humanitarian groups in Ukraine as a “fraudster” and “crazy.” And when he left a message that he had secured the acceptance of several Afghan soldiers into the Ukrainian Armed Forces on a trial basis, he was denied access to volunteer chats in the Signal messenger. After this incident, the US State Department reported that Rout may be involved in human trafficking or immigration fraud.
Walsh also said that Rout had spoken of wanting to assassinate Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. She said he also mentioned Trump and US President Joe Biden. However, she did not recall whether he had threatened them.
In 2023, a nurse who heard about Routt's efforts to recruit Syrian refugees to fight in the Ukraine conflict reported her concerns to the FBI and Interpol. She contacted the FBI again after the assassination attempt on Trump on Sunday, the newspaper reported.
Recall that on September 15, a second assassination attempt was made on Trump. The incident occurred near the US presidential candidate's golf club in Florida. Secret Service officers opened fire on the attacker, but he escaped. The man was subsequently detained. The police released footage of the arrest. It was reported that Raut had multiple criminal convictions.
It was noted that the man was listed as a contact person on a website with instructions on joining the Foreign Legion of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
