Quadrobers – a new subculture: how and why adults become “animals”
In recent years, in the cultural space one can increasingly observe the emergence of new subcultures and unusual behavioral trends that attract the attention of both young people and adults. One of these subcultures that is gaining popularity is quadrobers – people who deliberately imitate the behavior of animals. If previously copying the habits of cats and dogs was typical for children, today it has become a phenomenon among adults. What lies behind this “brutality” and why is it gaining momentum?
Who are quadrobers?
The term “quadbear” comes from two words: “quad”, which alludes to four paws or limbs, and “ber” (from the English “bear”, bear), although this is not only about copying the behavior of bears, but also other animals. The basis of this subculture is the desire for maximum immersion in the image of animals, their facial expressions, movements and way of life.
Quadrobers imitate not only the external habits of animals, but also delve deeper into psychological aspects: interaction with other people (or “packs”), reactions to external stimuli, everyday habits. Some of the members of the subculture even organize counter “meetings” where they can spend time among like-minded people.
Reasons for popularity
One of the main reasons for the rise of quadruples is the desire of people to move away from traditional social frameworks and expectations. Modern society dictates many rules and regulations, while quadrobers find in imitation of animals a way to throw off this burden and give free rein to their instincts.
Stress and city bustle. Life in a metropolis causes a lot of tension and stress, which forces people to look for ways to relieve emotional and psychological stress. In this environment, where every action is planned and predicted, quadrobers find freedom. By imitating animals, man returns to simple instincts, where there is no place for complex human emotions and social obligations.
The desire to be yourself. Many participants in this subculture claim that it is in the form of an animal that they feel “real.” They can express themselves the way they want without fear of judgment from others.
Online communities and media. The Internet plays a significant role in the popularization of quadrobers. On social networks and on platforms like YouTube or TikTok, you can increasingly see videos with participants in this subculture. Young people see this as part of a unique, self-expressed culture and eagerly join the movement.
Trends and development
Today, we can identify several key directions in which this subculture is developing.
Animal cosplay. This is the most common form of quadrupletism. People use animal costumes and masks to recreate the appearance of their favorite animals as accurately as possible. Costumes of predators – wolves, bears, lions – are especially popular. They meet both at specialized events and at private meetings within communities.
Behavioral imitation. Not only appearance, but also behavior becomes an object for imitation. People begin to crawl on all fours, growl, bark, purr – and this is considered the norm within the subculture. Such experiences help them immerse themselves in the world of simple emotions and actions, avoiding the complexity of human communication.
Therapeutic practices. Surprisingly, among quadrobers there are those who use this subculture for psychological relief. Imitating animals helps them cope with depression, anxiety and even inhibitions. They believe that switching to the simplest forms of behavior helps to remove emotional blocks and relax.
Social gatherings. As the popularity of quadrobers grows, clubs and gatherings are beginning to appear where people can socialize and interact in their “animal” personas. This is reminiscent of furry fests or other themed events where participants can exchange experiences, share cosplay and behavioral developments.
Social and cultural reactions
Not without criticism. Society as a whole has an ambivalent perception of quadrobers, especially when it comes to adults. Often behavior that imitates animals causes misunderstanding or even condemnation. Some believe it is a symptom of identity issues or even a form of escapism. However, supporters of the movement are confident that, on the contrary, they are discovering a new form of self-expression.
Interestingly, the phenomenon of quadrobers is increasingly being discussed in scientific circles from a psychological point of view. It is believed that such behavior may reflect deep human needs for a simpler, less technologically intensive life, where instincts play a central role.
Quadrobers are not just a passing phenomenon or another youth subculture. This is a reflection of modern social trends, the desire of people to return to their roots and find a way of self-expression in the conditions of oppressive city life. For some it is a game and cosplay, for others it is a way to find inner harmony through imitation of natural instincts. In any case, quadrobers demonstrate that even in the age of technology, people still need contact with nature, albeit through such an unusual form.
It will be interesting to watch the further development of this subculture. Perhaps in the future we will see the emergence of new types of quadruples, even more creative and eccentric.
