FBI probes reports of large drones in New Jersey, seeks public help
TRENTON, New Jersey: The FBI has asked for the public’s help in investigating reports about several mysterious nighttime drone flights that have recently occurred across central New Jersey.
Since November 18, people have reported seeing a group of drones-bigger than regular hobby drones-and possibly a fixed-wing aircraft flying in different areas along the Raritan River. It’s unclear why these flights happened or who was behind them. However, federal and state officials have assured that there is no known threat to public safety.
The flights have drawn attention because they occurred near the Picatinny Arsenal, a U.S. military research and manufacturing site, and over President-elect Donald Trump’s golf course in Bedminster. The FBI has asked residents to share any photos, videos, or information they might have about the flights.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has restricted drone flights in the area while the matter is being investigated. Meanwhile, law enforcement in Morris and Somerset counties said they are aware of the reports and will keep monitoring the drone activity.
