Cyprus ‘deeply saddened’ by Korea plane crash

Cyprus’ foreign ministry on Sunday said it was “deeply saddened” by the aeroplane crash which occurred in South Korea earlier in the day and killed almost 180 people.

It offered its “sincere condolences to the families of the victims”, and added, “our thoughts are with the government and the Korean people at this difficult time”.

Almost 180 people were killed when a Jeju Air aeroplane attempted to land without landing gear and veered off the runway and into a wall at Muan airport in the southwest of the country.

The flight was arriving from the Thai capital Bangkok with 175 passengers and six crew on board. Two people, both crew members, have been rescued, with the other 179 presumed dead.
