European trophies unveiled at Mall of Cyprus

The Uefa Europa League and Europa Conference League trophies were unveiled at the Mall of Cyprus in Nicosia on Thursday morning.

Greek gambling company Stoiximan, a sponsor of Uefa, announced that the trophies will be on display until 6.30pm, with visitors to the mall “having the opportunity to admire the emblematic trophies up close and capture the moment through photographs and videos”.

A previous announcement said the trophies’ presence in Cyprus will “strengthen fans’ connection with European football, bringing the atmosphere and brilliance of the two competitions in Cyprus”.

The event is taking place ahead of all three Cypriot teams which remain in the Conference League playing in the second legs of the competition’s knockout phase playoff on Thursday night.

Pafos FC and Omonia are set to face off against each other at Limassol’s Alphamega Stadium, with the tie finely balanced after the two sides played out a 1-1 draw in the first leg at Nicosia’s GSP Stadium last week.

Meanwhile, Apoel will face Slovenian champions Celje at the GSP Stadium but will have to do so without Georgian centre-half Lasha Dvali, who was sent off in last week’s 2-2 draw in northeastern Slovenia.
