Athletics: Shereen closes in on her mother’s record after winning the 400m race in NCAA competition

PETALING JAYA: The need for speed seems to be in the veins of Shereen Samson Vallabouy this year.

And she could one day beat the record of her mother and former national athlete and Olympian Josephine Mary.

The 24-year-old Shereen was in imperious form as she won the 400m race in the Allendale NCAA Division II Track and Field Championship, clocking 52.68s.

She was just 0.03s behind her mother’s fastest time of 52.65s.

The youngest daughter of Josephine and Samson Vallabuoy – also a former national athlete – shattered the time set in the 2022 NCAA Division II 400m race when she won, clocking 53.79s in March.

Rabia Abdul Salam remains the fastest in 400m, and her record of 52.56s has not been broken in 29 years.
