Many of the inhabitants of modern megacities are proud of when they are given the opportunity to walk a couple of stops on foot. But not everyone is so spoiled by civilization – in the world there are still real foot travelers, who do not even have several thousand kilometers. Sarah Marquis (Sarah Marquis) from Switzerland somehow decided to take a big walk and passed in 3 years 16 thousand km.
During her trip, Sarah Marquise crossed two continents, six countries and worn out eight pairs of boots. And I also drank 3,000 cups of tea in complete solitude, as Sarah does not recognize the satellites. The campaign from Siberia to Australia took three years from a woman: she overcame the distance of 16,000 km exclusively on foot, not counting the intersection of the seas and oceans.
Sarah Marquise was born in a small village in the north of Switzerland, where people lived in harmony with mountains and forests and loved to walk on their two. In an interview with CNN, the traveler admitted that she always strove for a special unity with nature:
“Yes, I have it since childhood. When I was small, I could alone go into the forest early in the morning and always discover something new for myself. ”
What is there – the nature around Sarah has always been plenty. At 8, she first made an independent sortie. Sarah took her dog, ran into the forest and spent the night in the cave. The older she became, the more difficult her routes were. Soon, the girl began to master walking tracks outside of cozy Europe.
On foot, the Marquis crossed New Zealand, the USA, passed 14,000 km along the Australian outback and overcame the Andes. In 2010, Sarah went on her most difficult and exciting campaign. She dreamed of understanding nature and truly realizing her place in it.
The beginning of the path
The three -year road began in Siberia. Sarah walked through the Gobi, China, Laos and Thailand desert. From Thailand to Australia, the woman got on board the cargo ship, which was following to Brisben. All Australia Sarah Marquise walked and ended her journey near a well -known tree in the desert. Sarah discovered him 10 years ago, when the green continent was first crossed on foot.
For three years spent on the campaign, Sarah was faced with many difficulties. The main one was the search for food, for example, in the conditions of the Australian Bush.
“My main goal was to return to the origins. Aborigines lived like this 60,000 years ago: in constant wanderings and search for food. It turned out to be damn hard. ”
Of course, during her wanderings, Sarah could not but face representatives of wildlife. There were very risky meetings. But the brave traveler had his own point of view on them.
“Once, when I crossed Gobi, somewhere at 5 in the morning, wolves howled near my tent. Instead of scared, I felt real unity with nature. ”
How would each of us behave in the place of the Marquis? It is likely that those who would not fall into a panic in such a situation would not be so many.
Yes, nature was not so scared by Sarah Marquis, as people sometimes shocked. Needless to say, Sarah is still a woman, and at some moments, most of all, she dreamed of having male muscles. In the jungle of Laos, drug dealers armed to the teeth attacked the traveler. Then Sarah miraculously managed to avoid death.
Sometimes the Marquis even had to pretend to be a man to cross the territories where women are powerless. She was especially not easy for her in Central China. There, in rural areas, a hard patriarchy still reigns. A woman who appeared on the street unaccompanied by a man is considered unworthy and publicly available in those parts.
Not one bread
Going into such a long trip, Sarah could not count on what would always be full. Very often she had to get food and water on her own. Despite the fact that the Marquis considers itself a part of nature, and maybe that is why it without hesitation used the gifts of the animal and plant world.
The woman had to collect beetles and larvae, catch fish with homemade gear, look for trees, nuts, mushrooms and root crops. There was sometimes plenty of water, and often it was not at all. Crossing the desert areas, the Marquis gathered dew at night an inverted umbrella. By morning, she was gathered for no more than two or three sips. It also happened that due to the deficiency of life-giving moisture, she had to not wash for a month and even more.
Sarah is divided by his experience on the YouTube channel. The traveler also travels with lectures and seminars at which she shares the experience of extreme survival. Not so long ago, she released a book in which she described her most grandiose journey. It tells the story of the campaign from the very beginning. The woman began to plan a trip two years before the start. She tried to foresee everything, but, of course, this did not work.
The woman is sure that she did not do anything special and everyone can repeat her “feat”, you just really want to want to:
